Our Artist of the Month is one of those bands that you don’t just hear \u2013 you experience. So how come \u201cDie H\u00f6chste Eisenbahn<\/a>\u201d are so musically remarkable? The story begins with the two songwriters Moritz Kr\u00e4mer<\/a> and Francesco Wilking<\/a>, who joined forces in 2011 to make music. Their musical chemistry was immediately palpable, and it quickly became clear that this project would become more than just a joint experiment.<\/p>\n

Multi-instrumentalist Felix Weigt<\/a> and drummer Max Schr\u00f6der<\/a>, also came on board to give Die H\u00f6chste Eisenbahn\u2019s sound its unique character. What began as a loose collaboration developed into a fully formed band that is now an indispensable fixture in the German indie-pop landscape.<\/p>\n

\"AotM<\/p>\n

Their musical history: from the first songs to today<\/h3>\n

Die H\u00f6chste Eisenbahn garnered attention immediately with their first EP \u201cUnzufrieden\u201d (2012). This was followed by the celebrated albums \u201cSchau in den Lauf, Hase<\/a>\u201d (2013), \u201cWer bringt mich jetzt zu den Anderen<\/a>\u201d (2016) and \u201cIch glaub dir alles<\/a>\u201d (2019). Their music is characterised by intelligent, often melancholic, yet humorous lyrics, which are combined with catchy melodies.<\/p>\n

Then the band went a little quiet. For six years there were no new songs and the musicians dedicated themselves to other projects. Max Schr\u00f6der worked with Olli Schulz<\/a>, Francesco Wilking was part of the Crucchi Gang<\/a>, Moritz Kr\u00e4mer concentrated on his solo projects, and Felix Weigt seemed to have almost given up music completely, going on to make a name for himself as a podcaster.<\/p>\n

But they are back in 2025.<\/p>\n

The return: \u201cB\u00fcrotage\u201d and a new album<\/h3>\n

\u201cDie H\u00f6chste Eisenbahn is back. And in 2025, they sound like the people of 1925 imagined 1999 would sound. Like skyscrapers and flying steam-driven carriages\u201d.<\/p>\n

These words announced the band\u2019s return and B\u00fcrotage<\/a> became their first single since 2019. The song, written over three days at the start of a week, describes frustration with tax documents, office work and modern terms like “workspace” \u2013 packaged in a sound reminiscent of Talking Heads, Metronomy and Trio, but ultimately unmistakably reminiscent of Die H\u00f6chste Eisenbahn.<\/p>\n

A new album has also been announced: the band’s fourth record, the title of which is not yet known, will be released on 05\/09\/2025. But one thing is certain: Die H\u00f6chste Eisenbahn remains true to itself and delivers music that sounds both nostalgic and forward-looking.<\/p>\n

The return of Die H\u00f6chste Eisenbahn is a musical event that fans have been waiting for for a long time. Their mixture of profound lyrics, atmospheric sound and a pinch of humorous melancholy makes them unique. Anyone who wants to experience them live will have the chance to do so on their big club tour in autumn 2025.<\/p>\n
