Our Artist of the Month is the German indie pop artist L\u00f9isa<\/a> who, since the middle of 2025, has really been amping up excitement for her album in 2026, \u201cCall me the Witch\u201d.<\/p>\n

And we should be excited: \u201cHer first two single releases from 2025, \u201cMy Love is Easy<\/a>\u201d and \u201cStay the Night<\/a>\u201d combine pulsating beats, warm synthesisers and a haunting voice to create a sound that immediately gets stuck in your heart and head. L\u00f9isa sounds unique. Even though her music is reminiscent of female artists like Kate Bush, she brings a fresh, modern touch that makes her sound international.<\/p>\n

With this new release and the strong momentum she currently has as an artist, it was only logical to nominate L\u00f9isa our recordJet Artist of the Month \u00a0for January 2026.<\/p>\n

Who is L\u00f9isa? A look at the career of the German indie pop artist<\/h3>\n

L\u00f9isa, born Luisa Ortwein, grew up in Hesse and moved to Hamburg after finishing secondary school. This is where her artistic journey really began to take off. She soon discovered music: at 15 she learned guitar and at 16 she started to write her own songs. At the age of just 20 (in 2012) she released her debut album \u201cOne Youth Ago<\/a>\u201d, which marked the first time she caught attention in the German music landscape. This was followed by a tour of Germany, a performance at \u201cInas Nacht\u201d<\/a> and the Hamburg Music Prize \u201cKrach + Get\u00f6se\u201d<\/a> award in 2013.<\/p>\n

The following phase of her career was characterised by growth and experimentation. In 2014, the EP \u201cIntrospection<\/a>\u201d was released, which once again saw her touring through Germany. Shortly thereafter, L\u00f9isa became the first German signing of the renowned Canadian label Nettwerk Records<\/a>. There she released her second album \u201cNever Own<\/a>\u201d, which was partly produced on a lightship in London \u2013 an atmospheric place to record that had a noticeable influence on the depth and breadth of her sound. Songs like \u201cUnder the Wild Skies<\/a>\u201d found their way into American television series, providing a growing international audience. Tours with artists such as Xavier Rudd<\/a> and The Paper Kites<\/a> followed.<\/p>\n

From synth pop to multilingualism: L\u00f9isa developed her own signature sound<\/h3>\n

After a creative break, L\u00f9isa returned in 2020 with the single \u201cDeep Sea State of Mind<\/a>\u201d, which marked a significant step towards synth pop. Her love of languages flows directly into her music: L\u00f9isa sings in German, English, French and Italian, giving her songs an extra emotional and cultural depth. Her visual approach to songwriting and production is particularly characteristic. In an interview she described that she always sees music \u201cin pictures\u201d and has scenes, landscapes or moods in mind when writing and arranging. This cinematic approach makes her music atmospheric, tangible and unmistakable.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Woman\u201d, big festival appearances and becoming a producer<\/h3>\n

The album \u201cNew Woman<\/a>\u201d was released in May 2021. It is a self-confident, reflective work about self-determination, development and female identity. L\u00f9isa toured extensively throughout Europe. She played at the Iceland Airwaves Festival<\/a> and accompanied Arlo Parks<\/a> at concerts. After this intensive phase, she consciously withdrew from the public in order to further develop her skills as a music producer. This step has had a lasting influence on her sound today: warm, clear, emotional and yet experimental.<\/p>\n

\u201cStay the Night\u201d \u2013 an indie pop-rock song about strength, vulnerability and the freedom of the night<\/h3>\n

\u201cStay the Night\u201d is a rare feat: it is a song that sounds powerful and fragile but also nostalgic and hypermodern. It talks of the duality between strength and vulnerability and how liberating it can be to take off the mask of perfectionism for a moment. The song invites you to embrace true closeness and to celebrate the freedom that often only the night allows.<\/p>\n

Musically, L\u00f9isa takes up elements reminiscent of artists such as Kate Bush or Fleetwood Mac, but combines them with a warm, contemporary indie pop note that clearly bears her own signature. \u201cStay The Night\u201d is the second single from her new album, which will be released in spring 2026. In the autumn of 2025, she supported Simply Red<\/a>\u2019s sold-out arena tour \u2013 a career highlight that impressively shows how far her music carries and how strong her stage presence has become.<\/p>\n

2025 and 2026: arena tours, new singles and an upcoming album<\/h3>\n

Summer 2025 brought a special highlight as L\u00f9isa opened a concert by Alanis Morissette<\/a>. In the autumn of the same year, she accompanied Simply Red on their arena tour through Germany and Switzerland. Her single \u201cMy Love Is Easy\u201d was a first taste of her new album \u201cCall Me the Witch\u201d, which will be released in spring 2026. She will go on tour from April 2026 with the new music, presenting her fourth studio album live in front of an audience for the first time.<\/p>\n

With the already released singles \u201cStay the Night\u201d and \u201cMy Love Is Easy\u201d, it is clear that her new album will be more personal, courageous and atmospheric than anything before. It is a work that brings together her development as a songwriter, singer and producer and takes her to the next level.<\/p>\n
