And it shows how new technologies are already breaking down boundaries that were previously inviolable.<\/p>\n<h3>Metaverse: more than just a buzzword<\/h3>\n<p>Conceptually, the metaverse can be described as an advanced internet in 3D spaces \u2013 a world in which digital and real experiences merge.<\/p>\n<p>People move around with avatars, explore virtual environments and experience events together in real time. Technologies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/wirtschaftslexikon.gabler.de\/definition\/virtuelle-realitaet-54243\">Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)<\/a> create immersive spaces in which music and interaction are completely redefined.<\/p>\n<h3>Examples of successful metaverse concerts<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Lil Nas X&#8217;s Roblox concert<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lil_Nas_X\">rap star Lil Nas X made<\/a> history when he held the first big virtual concert on the gaming platform Roblox. He appeared in four different theme worlds \u2013 from the wild west to a wintry landscape.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The performance was part of the promotion of his song \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sY90hM412iA\">Holiday<\/a>\u201d and was an extremely big PR campaign for both the Roblox platform and for himself.<\/li>\n<li>The event was visited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/11\/16\/21570454\/lil-nas-x-roblox-concert-33-million-views\">33 million<\/a> times. This makes it one of the most watched virtual concerts ever \u2013 especially at a time when physical concerts were cancelled in large numbers due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/li>\n<li>Fans could experience the whole show through their avatars: they could walk around, interact and even buy virtual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caicon.de\/2023\/07\/05\/was-sind-merchandise-produkte\/\">merch items<\/a>. The gaming company turned over nearly $10 million.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This event showed for the first time that music connects people digitally just as well as it does physically, on a global level, completely independent of geographical boundaries.\u00a0Find out more about the concert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/11\/16\/21570454\/lil-nas-x-roblox-concert-33-million-views\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Decentraland Festival: four days of virtual stage<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kraken.com\/de\/learn\/what-is-decentraland-mana\">Decentraland<\/a> is a decentralised, 3D-based metaverse on the Ethereum blockchain. Users explore a virtual world as avatars, creating their own content (games, art, shops) and managing it by buying virtual properties (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=firefox-b-e&amp;channel=entpr&amp;q=LAND&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiJkK79i8KRAxW4SPEDHdv5HokQgK4QegQIARAC\">LAND<\/a> as NFT) and trading with the <a href=\"https:\/\/bisonapp.com\/en\/crypto\/coins\/decentraland\/\">cryptocurrency MANA<\/a>. It is a community-driven platform.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2021, a four-day metaverse music festival took place, with more than 80 artists from different genres and plenty of interaction for viewers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visitors could move freely, interact with each other, and even collect NFTs or buy virtual objects.<\/li>\n<li>Decentraland itself describes the event as an exercise in how culture, community and music can work together in virtual spaces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find out more <a href=\"https:\/\/decentraland.org\/musicfestival\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>From festival to community experience<\/h3>\n<p>The two above events are just examples of what is possible. They provide a glimpse into the future and show what opportunities the internet can offer.<\/p>\n<h4>What these events have in common:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Immersive experience instead of a passive show:<\/strong><br \/>\nFans move actively in the virtual world, can meet others, network or play \u2013 music can thus be experienced in a multi-dimensional way.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Access for all \u2013 without location limitations:<\/strong><br \/>\nPeople from all over the world can participate \u2013 no travelling, queueing or physical capacity limits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>New income and interaction sources for artists:<\/strong><br \/>\nAvatar merchandise, virtual products or NFT-based tickets open up new economic opportunities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>New generation, new expectations<\/h3>\n<p>The reason for this change is pragmatic: younger generations are already growing up in digital worlds. For them, online communities, gaming events and virtual experiences are as normal as real meetings.<\/p>\n<p>For Generation Z and Generation Alpha, socialising online is part of everyday life \u2013 whether it&#8217;s playing, streaming or even virtual concerts.
