Miss Marla: Our Artist of the Month October 2026 | recordJet
Miss Marla: German Rap with Barbie Attitude – Why Miss Marla is our recordJet Artist of the Month in October
Time is money, and money is power – Miss Marla, our Artist of the Month for October, understood this early on. The rapper brings the soundtrack for the game from the East Coast to Germany in a contemporary trap style, making it clear very quickly: no one here is politely asking for a seat at the table.
Miss Marla simply takes it.
With self-assured lyrics, distinctive vocals, autotune, and punchy basslines, she moves somewhere between modern German rap, trap, and club sound. Added to this is an aesthetic that relies as little on understatement as her music: Barbie meets boss mentality, high gloss meets the streets, attitude meets a healthy dose of empowerment.
Miss Marla is our recordJet Artist of the Month in October 2026. And there’s more than one reason for that.
From “Black Barbie” to “Money Counter Music”
Miss Marla has been regularly releasing new music for several years now. With tracks like “Black Barbie” (2024) and “Ich bin eine Diva” (2025), she quickly staked out her own musical territory: self-confident, loud, and with a sound that clearly draws inspiration from contemporary US rap but makes it her own.
In 2025, the debut album “Money Counter Music” followed. 15 tracks, together with Ratmir and Prod Gordon, on which Miss Marla navigates modern trap productions and continues to develop her own sound. What stands out: Miss Marla doesn’t make herself smaller to fit in anywhere. Money, status, femininity, self-staging, and success are allowed to coexist in her world – without justification.
The comparison to a young Missy Elliott, which quickly comes to mind with Miss Marla, isn’t just about the drip. It’s also this desire to build her own world and not move within it according to others’ rules.
“YOUNG BARBIE LIFE”: Miss Marla turns up the heat in 2026
Resting on the first album? No chance.
In March 2026, the six-track EP “YOUNG BARBIE LIFE” was released, together with Prod Gordon. Titles like “BE BARBIE OR DIE TRYIN”, “BLACK BARBIE EFFECT”, “PAGANI”, or “BEBII” show: the Barbie aesthetic is long since more than just a single song title for Miss Marla. It’s part of the world she creates around her music.
Yet, she doesn’t sound like a plastic fantasy at all. Beneath the glossy surface lie dark trap beats, heavy bass, and an artist who seems to know more and more precisely how she wants to sound. Miss Marla keeps the pace high. 2026 sees singles like “U Wish”, “Time Is Money”, “They Need Me”, and “Blow Sum More” follow. With “Again & Again”, the next track has already been released since September.
Especially “Time Is Money” brings together much of what defines Miss Marla’s sound: modern rap, confident delivery, and a production that works just as well in the club as on headphones.
244 Applications – and a Wildcard for Miss Marla
This year, recordJet and Music Change Germany once again offered a wildcard slot for the FLINTA* Music Force Showcase at Reeperbahn Festival.
The response was enormous: 244 artists applied. 244 different sounds, stories, and perspectives – and a correspondingly difficult decision. In the end, Miss Marla convinced. With her music, her unique aesthetic, and above all, with the feeling that an artist here is very precisely figuring out where she wants to go. On September 16, she stood on stage at Hamburg’s Schmidtchen together with Charlotte Colace, Mine, and lùisa and concluded this year’s FLINTA* Music Force Showcase as the wildcard winner. Her performance was brilliant.
And that’s exactly what this wildcard is for: to give artists a stage not only when everyone is already talking about them, but when things are getting exciting.
Female Rap Without Asking for Permission
German rap was long enough a space where women were primarily told how they should perform, look, or sound. All the more exciting is a generation of female rappers who are increasingly ignoring these rules.
Miss Marla fits right in there. Her music doesn’t have to choose between feminine and tough. Between Barbie and business. Between autotune and bars. Between club and rap.
She takes what she needs from all these worlds and builds her own. Perhaps that’s the most interesting aspect of Miss Marla: behind all the drip, the Barbie vocabulary, and the demonstrative self-confidence lies a rather consistent artistic stance.
I decide how I want to look. I decide how I want to sound. And I decide what place I take.
