Discovery Mode now available for everyone in Spotify for Artists
All information and changes to Spotify's Discovery Mode
Spotify’s Discovery Mode is now available for recordJet artists! You can submit and organize your tracks for the Discovery Mode independently through the desktop version of your Spotify for Artists (S4A) account! We are one of the few distributors across the globe that have joined the programme. Below you will find all the details and changes.
Discovery Mode offers artists a powerful tool to reach new listeners. Imagine its functions as a kind of music-marketing-tool: Artists and labels can prioritize songs with Discovery Mode. Spotify’s system will transmit the signal to the algorithms, which will then create personalized music sessions. This will increase changes that your selected songs will be recommended.
However, it only works if the listeners are liking it. The algorithm takes note of whether or not a potential fan interacts with a song and will consider it for future recommendations.
Discovery Mode is active in a selection of personalized playlists in which listeners are particularly open to new discoveries. All personalized playlists in which Discovery Mode is active are referred to as Discovery Mode contexts. These currently include: Spotify Radio, Autoplay and Daily Mix. During the campaign period, you will only be charged a commission for streams of your selected songs in Discovery Mode contexts. All other streams of the same songs in other areas of the platform are commission-free. Spotify is also pursuing other goals:
Build a targeted fan base
In total, more than 30% of the music played on Spotify is discovered through personalized recommendations using algorithms. With the help of Discovery Mode, artists can gradually build up a dedicated fan base: On average, the number of songs saved increases by 50 %. Playlist placements increase by a whopping 40% and the number of followers increases by over 35% within the first month of the campaign.
Find new fans in new markets
As part of Discovery Mode, songs are streamed in an average of 100 different markets during the campaign period. In addition, over 50% of listeners who discover artists via Discovery Mode come from outside the artists’ home countries.
Requirements to be able to implement a Discovery Mode campaign:
- you have at least 3 tracks that meet the following criteria:
- your track has been released on Spotify for at least 30 days
- your track has been streamed in Discovery Mode contexts in the last 7 days
- you have at least 25,000 monthly listeners. Spotify has found that Discovery Mode works best with an audience of this size or larger

Discovery Mode is now also available for you as a recordJet Artist, as long as you fulfill the above Spotify criteria. Until the last day of the month, you can submit your tracks that will go live in Discovery Mode the following month. For campaigns that are scheduled to go live in March, you have until February 29th. Submit tracks using the desktop version of your Spotify for Artist account. You also have the opportunity to view reports on your campaigns via your S4A account.
