Our Artist of the Month for January: Lùisa
Lùisa has impressed with her new indie pop single “Stay the Night”
Our Artist of the Month is the German indie pop artist Lùisa who, since the middle of 2025, has really been amping up excitement for her album in 2026, “Call me the Witch”.
And we should be excited: “Her first two single releases from 2025, “My Love is Easy” and “Stay the Night” combine pulsating beats, warm synthesisers and a haunting voice to create a sound that immediately gets stuck in your heart and head. Lùisa sounds unique. Even though her music is reminiscent of female artists like Kate Bush, she brings a fresh, modern touch that makes her sound international.
With this new release and the strong momentum she currently has as an artist, it was only logical to nominate Lùisa our recordJet Artist of the Month for January 2026.
Who is Lùisa? A look at the career of the German indie pop artist
Lùisa, born Luisa Ortwein, grew up in Hesse and moved to Hamburg after finishing secondary school. This is where her artistic journey really began to take off. She soon discovered music: at 15 she learned guitar and at 16 she started to write her own songs. At the age of just 20 (in 2012) she released her debut album “One Youth Ago”, which marked the first time she caught attention in the German music landscape. This was followed by a tour of Germany, a performance at “Inas Nacht” and the Hamburg Music Prize “Krach + Getöse” award in 2013.
The following phase of her career was characterised by growth and experimentation. In 2014, the EP “Introspection” was released, which once again saw her touring through Germany. Shortly thereafter, Lùisa became the first German signing of the renowned Canadian label Nettwerk Records. There she released her second album “Never Own”, which was partly produced on a lightship in London – an atmospheric place to record that had a noticeable influence on the depth and breadth of her sound. Songs like “Under the Wild Skies” found their way into American television series, providing a growing international audience. Tours with artists such as Xavier Rudd and The Paper Kites followed.
From synth pop to multilingualism: Lùisa developed her own signature sound
After a creative break, Lùisa returned in 2020 with the single “Deep Sea State of Mind”, which marked a significant step towards synth pop. Her love of languages flows directly into her music: Lùisa sings in German, English, French and Italian, giving her songs an extra emotional and cultural depth. Her visual approach to songwriting and production is particularly characteristic. In an interview she described that she always sees music “in pictures” and has scenes, landscapes or moods in mind when writing and arranging. This cinematic approach makes her music atmospheric, tangible and unmistakable.
“New Woman”, big festival appearances and becoming a producer
The album “New Woman” was released in May 2021. It is a self-confident, reflective work about self-determination, development and female identity. Lùisa toured extensively throughout Europe. She played at the Iceland Airwaves Festival and accompanied Arlo Parks at concerts. After this intensive phase, she consciously withdrew from the public in order to further develop her skills as a music producer. This step has had a lasting influence on her sound today: warm, clear, emotional and yet experimental.
“Stay the Night” – an indie pop-rock song about strength, vulnerability and the freedom of the night
“Stay the Night” is a rare feat: it is a song that sounds powerful and fragile but also nostalgic and hypermodern. It talks of the duality between strength and vulnerability and how liberating it can be to take off the mask of perfectionism for a moment. The song invites you to embrace true closeness and to celebrate the freedom that often only the night allows.
Musically, Lùisa takes up elements reminiscent of artists such as Kate Bush or Fleetwood Mac, but combines them with a warm, contemporary indie pop note that clearly bears her own signature. “Stay The Night” is the second single from her new album, which will be released in spring 2026. In the autumn of 2025, she supported Simply Red’s sold-out arena tour – a career highlight that impressively shows how far her music carries and how strong her stage presence has become.
2025 and 2026: arena tours, new singles and an upcoming album
Summer 2025 brought a special highlight as Lùisa opened a concert by Alanis Morissette. In the autumn of the same year, she accompanied Simply Red on their arena tour through Germany and Switzerland. Her single “My Love Is Easy” was a first taste of her new album “Call Me the Witch”, which will be released in spring 2026. She will go on tour from April 2026 with the new music, presenting her fourth studio album live in front of an audience for the first time.
Why is Lùisa our recordJet Artist of the Month?
Lùisa embodies everything that characterises modern indie pop artists: a clear musical vision, authentic songwriting, a distinctive voice and a sound that is emotionally touching but also resonates internationally. Her songs combine depth with catchiness, retro influences with contemporary production and personal stories with great musical images. With “Stay the Night” she demonstrates once again how powerful, atmospheric and relevant German indie pop can be.
A look at Lùisa’s new album “Call Me the Witch”
