There’s a new and important feature for you from Apple Music for Artists
Apple Music for Artists now also records Radio Spins!
Numbers, facts, analysis – this does not sound particularly exciting when it comes to publishing and celebrating the best music in the world: your music! Yet a detailed data analysis, especially of your potential listeners, can help you scrutinise the details and, for example, position yourself more strategically and thoughtfully on your next release. This data not only provides you with specific insights, but also shows that at the end of the day, making music is a business that needs to be read to be understood. Consider the integration of Shazam – a unique selling point of Apple Music for Artists. And the fact that it now also displays Radio Spins is another step in the direction of being an indispensable tool for you as an artist. But let’s take a closer look at it all:
Trends, Radio Spins, Shazam and real-time plays: the categories
With Apple Music for Artists, you can not only find out which of your songs was the most successful, but also where and with whom. There are different categories, such as milestones or trends. But there are also Radio Spins.
- Who is listening?
Wouldn’t it be exciting to know how many fans are streaming your music on Apple Music? The “Listening Now” widget shows exactly how many listeners
have played one of your tracks for at least 30 seconds in the last 48 hours. The numbers are updated every five seconds to show who is playing your songs. Offline plays are not yet included. You can view both the maximum number and the average. Or maybe you want to know which of your songs is the most popular? Top titles gives you a snapshot of your six most-played titles.
Important: for privacy reasons, Apple Music has a so-called minimum threshold value for listeners for “Listening Now” analysis to be displayed.
- Radio Spins
The app now tracks radio plays on over 40,000 digital radio stations worldwide. The “Radio Spins” feature is built into your overview page and the detail page of each song. Select a song to see your top countries and cities for Radio Spins – plays on Apple Music Radio are not included.
- Places
The Places tab on Apple Music for Artists shows you which city, (German) state, or country your listeners are in. You can apply filters to better understand the popularity of new releases and find out where you might be heading next. Who knows, perhaps not Berlin, but Leipzig!?
By default, the app displays data from the past four weeks, but you can adjust the time period at any time by changing the selection in the upper right corner of the app.
- Trends
The Trends feature in Artist Analytics helps you gain insight into the performance of your music. Compare analyses based on the actions of your listeners and use different filters to find out details such as gender, age, location and the most-streamed songs.
- Shazams and their insights
Whenever one of your songs is detected on Shazam, the app records that activity. You can see how many times your track has been played through Shazam and how it performs on Apple Music and the iTunes Store.
- Shazam charts
Shazam chart data is now also available. If your song has been on the Shazam charts in a specific country or city for the past seven days, you can view this information directly in the app.
- Top titles in detail
Get detailed insight into the performance of your most popular titles. Tap your most-played song to view plays, daily listener counts, Shazams, purchases, and more, sorted by city or country.
- Purchases
Purchases are registered whenever a customer buys your song or album in the store.
- Milestones
Milestones give you a list of your songs and albums’ best scores and special achievements, such as top plays, top Shazams, or being included in a playlist created by Apple Music Editors.
Data availability
All data is updated daily. However, it may take up to 48 hours for new information to appear on your Apple Music for Artists dashboard. Different music distributors may deliver your music at different times. Apple Music combines this data into a single track, which is why you may only see an album or a single cover that represents a track comprising from different releases.
Click “View All” in the “Music” section to download data from your full catalogue. Make sure you set the date range before downloading your CSV file.
