Music Women Germany: More visibility for FLINTA* in the music industry
In this section, we present inspiring news from the vast expanse of the music universe once a month. Books, podcasts, events, people or simply special news.
We have been following the work of Music Women* Germany with great pleasure for some time now. It’s time to introduce the nationwide umbrella organization of all women, lesbians, non-binary people, intersex people, trans* people and other genderqueer actors in the music industry as well as their networks in the music industry in Germany (so much time is needed).
Music Women Germany: Women power in the music industry
The music industry is changing – and Music Women Germany (MWG) is actively driving this development forward. The nationwide network is committed to greater visibility, equal opportunities and networking for FINTA* people in the music industry. With numerous initiatives, events and training opportunities, MWG ensures that the industry becomes more diverse, inclusive and fair.
Why Music Women Germany is so important
For a long time, women and marginalized groups have been underrepresented in the music industry – whether on stage, in the boardroom or behind the mixing desk. This is exactly where MWG comes in, offering a platform where music professionals can network, educate and support each other.
Your concept – space, code of conduct and interaction with each other
MWG want a place where all participants can actively participate and feel as safe as possible. That is why they do not tolerate forms of racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, trans hostility, queer hostility, bodyism or any other form of discrimination or harassment. The umbrella organization is committed to ensuring that everyone can feel respected – regardless of gender identity, skin color, religion, ethnicity or ability.
So there is no exclusion, no photos or videos without consent. Personal responsibility. Recognizing boundaries and needs that you and others perceive and adhere to. MGM believes those affected and does not question their experience.
They want to respect individual boundaries when dealing with each other. Pronouns cannot be inferred from external appearance. For this reason, gender-neutral language is a basic prerequisite for avoiding discriminatory behavior.
The aims of MWG
Music Women Germany aims to break down structural barriers and create more diversity in the industry. Various programs and formats are offered for this purpose, including:
Workshops & mentoring: training opportunities for career advancement.
Networking events: Meetings to make contacts and create synergies.
Database for Music Women: A central platform to make female musicians and music professionals visible.
Awareness & Advocacy: MWG is politically and socially committed to equal rights.
Network, commitment and empowerment
The key to this major goal of achieving greater visibility for FLINTA* artists/people can only be achieved through networking, cooperation and (political) commitment, for example through a biennial national conference and projects, as all Music Women* Germany volunteers agree. Perhaps this is why MWG are so active. You can find them at all the important music events, such as the Reeperbahn Festival. The association submits applications, is active online and wants to set an example with projects such as the Female* Producer Prize. Not just talk, but action. The motto is to create empowerment through activity. And that they are well networked can also be seen from their collaboration with other FLINTA* organizations, such as MEWEM, FAEMM, music is her passion society e.v. or Bande , as part of the “Billige Gala”.
How you can become part of MWG
Whether you are an artist, producer, manager or label owner – anyone can get involved with Music Women Germany. Membership not only brings valuable contacts, but also exclusive resources and training opportunities
Conclusion
Music Women Germany is a movement that is revolutionizing the music industry. Networks, targeted support and a strong community spirit are paving the way for women and FINTA* people to enter the music industry. If you want to make the industry fairer and more sustainable, you should definitely take a closer look at MWG!
The Cheap Gala- at Heimathafen Neukölln
Together with various initiatives, such as MEWEM, FAEMM or music is her passion society e.v., the initiators have created an evening full of constructive criticism, anger and empowerment with the “Billige Gala”, with which they want to address grievances and undermine prejudices. On the evening, you can look forward to an exclusive premiere reading of the book “Billige Plätze. Gender Power and Discrimination in the Music Industry”, in which author Rike van Kleef takes a detailed look at the sexist structures in the music industry.
