Soulfood is our new co-pilot for physical distribution
CD’s days are not yet over.
With Soulfood on board as our new co-pilot, we have found an experienced physical distribution partner. As of now, you can book the new service “Physical Distribution with Soulfood” on our website and reserve your flight toward the most important retail stores. In this section, we would like to introduce you to Soulfood and explain how you can place your pressed and designed CDs and vinyl in the local stores of Germany, Austria, and, with the help of Soulfood’s large and global distribution network, even internationally.
The history of Soulfood
The founders, Georg Schmitz and Jochen Richter, have been active in the music business for more than 25 years. With Soulfood, they’ve built one of the most important, successful and independent music distribution firms in Germany. For more than 10 years, they have supported musicians and over 100 independent labels encompassing genres like metal, rock, pop, urban, re-issue, jazz and world music, by placing their music in stores such as Saturn and Media Markt. Alongside classic distribution deals, Soulfood offers individually tailored models, keeping abreast with the times and supplying an answer to the changing and increasingly formidable demands of today’s music industry.
Before we explain how to book this new service, allow us to answer your most pressing question: “How much does the service cost?” All active recordJet passengers can benefit from this cooperation with Soulfood, and only have to pay 29 EUR for the national and international physical distribution of a release that was previously digitally distributed through recordJet.
How do I book this service?
The preparation:
After you have pressed and designed your CD or vinyl, you just need to include the EAN code, the logos of both recordJet and Soulfood (both downloadable here), and your individual barcode on the back cover. The barcode is easily created and downloaded for free by copying the GTIN of your release from the “My Music” section of your recordJet account. Once your CDs or vinyl have been shrink-wrapped, your preparation is complete.
The booking process:
You are now ready to book the service package “Physical Distribution with Soulfood“.
Right after you have booked the service, we will send you a contract via DocuSign. After you have digitally signed the contract and paid the outstanding service fees, the booking process is officially complete.
But the most important step comes directly after: Please send the information below, along with a brief but detailed description of your promotion and marketing activities as well as information about upcoming tour dates, to soulfood@recordjet.com.
1. Your name
2. Your recordJet customer number
3. Release title
4. Artist
5. Release date
6. GTIN (was automatically created when you uploaded to recordJet)

The first 25 CDs or vinyl need to be sent to Soulfood four weeks prior to the official release date:

Note: All stores use your popularity and activities (and other criteria) to decide for themselves how many CDs they want from you. Soulfood Music Distribution has no influence on this. It is not possible to decide for yourself how many CDs should be available in in which branch of which chain.
The account statement:
This is as simple as ever: You can view the account statement for your physical distribution income along with your download and streaming income on recordJet, as usual.
Important information you need to know about the rules of physical distribution:
A deciding factor for the placement of your physical releases in each country is how well-known you are and the number of activities you have there (e.g. promo, performances, etc.). Once you have made your booking, please send an email describing your respective activities in detail to give distribution an idea. In any case, your release will be available to order from all important stores (e.g. Media Markt) even if it is not available on-site. All stores use your popularity and activities (and other criteria) to decide for themselves how many CDs they want from you. Soulfood Music Distribution has no influence on this. It is not possible to decide for yourself how many CDs should be available in in which branch of which chain.
