Back to the past with Instagram’s new “Song on Profile” feature
Instagram launches new feature reminiscent of Myspace
Maybe it’s a throwback to the good old Myspace days, or maybe it’s just still a good idea:
Instagram has just these days introduced a new feature that allows you as a user to add a 30-second music clip to your profile. This update allows you to better personalize your profile and share your musical preferences. For you as an artist, it is also another advertising opportunity to draw attention to your music.
Myspace sends its regards – with one exception
Adding a track is reminiscent of the former Myspace feature, where a track was played as soon as you were on a person’s profile. After all, it should be immediately clear what kind of person or musical preferences you were dealing with here.
The new feature on Instagram differs from its Myspace predecessor in that the song does not start playing in a matter of seconds when you visit an Instagram channel. The song must first be actively clicked on.
Insert song on profile: This is how it works
The desired song is displayed directly under your account name and your Insta bio and can also be played there. The music is displayed at the top of the bio section of the profile, where you will also find other personal information and links. To add a song, click on “Edit profile”. There you can choose from the large library of licensed music, which is also used for Instagram reels and stories. Songs that you can add to your Instagram profile include: “Blinding Lights” – The Weeknd, “Levitating” – Dua Lipa feat. “Peaches” – Justin Bieber feat. Daniel Caesar & Giveon or “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles and many, many more. You can then specify a 30-second section of the selected song that can be played on your profile.
This new feature is likely to arouse nostalgic feelings, especially among older users, as it is strongly reminiscent of the functions that once made Myspace one of the leading social platforms. Myspace, which was popular in the early 2000s, offered users the opportunity to personalize their profiles with music and was particularly popular with musicians and bands.
Song on Profile with Sabrina Carpenter as the driving force
To introduce and celebrate this new feature, Instagram has teamed up with American pop star Sabrina Carpenter. Her profile now includes a teaser of her song “Taste” from her latest album “Short n’ Sweet”.
Important for you as an artist
With these simple steps and song options, you can easily express your style and mood on your Instagram profile and make it even more personal and appealing. As a musician, it also gets exciting. Finally, you can create your own song on “Song on on Profile” and promote yourself even better.
