Our Artist of the Month for September 2023: Die P

Boom bap sound with heart!

Equal opportunities for all! That would describe, very roughly, what the rapper DIE P, our ARTIST OF the MONTH, stands for. Equal opportunities for all means that DIE P can rap in just as arrogant, ignorant and challenging a way as any other rapper – without having to make her body and sexuality the centre of her own world. If it were up to DIE P, the history of rap music would have to be written again from the beginning. Preferably without the routine degradation of lifestyles that don’t seem to fit the exaggerated masculinity of many of the main players. Her songs are about ambition, respect and the search for recognition.

For example, in her debut single “Mach Platz” in 2015 she rapped: “When I come, you make room!” She made her debut in German hip hop with these lines. And it was clear to everyone: this rapper has come to stay. The musician from Bonn has long since gained a healthy measure of recognition within the scene, and since her appearance at the “splash!” festival in 2022, she has no longer been an insider secret. But according to her, she is only just getting started.

Artist of the month: Die P

DIE P makes classic boom bap sound with passion!

Our ARTIST OF THE MONTH is at home musically in the legendary rap decade of 90s hip hop and the accompanying beats. Reminders of classical rap legends such as Wu-Tang Clan, NAS and Warren G cannot be missed in her work.

But DIE P is not just a rapper, she belongs to rap’s infantry assault team. The driving force for female rap that is not labelled. That doesn’t want to please, or use sex to sell. But still works with a lot of heart. For example, DIE P was the first to sign for the female label 365xxrecords – who she has been under contract with since 2020 and where her EP “Tape” first appeared.

What many do not know is that THE P’s real name is Patricia Pembele and she was born in Munich in 1987. She now lives in Bonn (which is you can’t miss when you look at her EP titles) and also produces her music from there. She began to write her first rap lyrics at the age of 14. According to legend, she met her cousin shortly afterwards at a battle in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. Under the pseudonym MC Double P, she took third place. In 2017, DIE P released her first EP Bonnität. Her 2019 “Alle Reden” single was her breakthrough. The song was praised by the rapper Megaloh, among others, on Instagram.
